Local Event: Lake FX Summit and Expo

Chicago has truly amped up their event schedule for 2016. The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) announced the full schedule for the second annual Lake FX Summit + Expo. The Halfstack team is excited not only to attend, but also because Editor in Chief: Jen Lezan will be speaking on the Business of Fashion Panel Moderated by: Cesar Rolon of Chicago Latino Fashion Week & Imagen Consulting. 

The expo is taking place May 13–15 at the Chicago Cultural Center (78 E. Washington St.). It is the region’s largest FREE event that brings together artists and creative entrepreneurs from all over Chicago. The city is inviting  all those who “create, perform or produce” to attend. Free registration is now open at lakefxchicago.us.

This year’s Lake FX is themed “I’m in!” and asks attendees to immerse themselves in conversations, demonstrations and networking opportunities each day of the expo. More than 100 talks, panels and workshops – on topics ranging from marketing and engagement strategies to legal, financial and space issues – will be presented by industry experts for those working in the culinary, fashion, film and media, music, performing arts, technology and design and visual arts fields, with select programs identified for emerging artists and creatives.

New programs and highlights for the 2016 Lake FX Summit + Expo include opportunities for attendees to:

• Gain advice and knowledge on joining the creative industry workforce at the Emerging Artists Series Presented by McDonald’s All American Games (throughout the weekend)
• Discover new emerging talent – and catch free performances by Chicago’s breakout music artists at “IN Tune” Music Showcases with iHeartMedia. A separate registration opens May 2 for these events featuring Oscar and Grammy-winning artists Rhymefest and a special guest performance by Lupe Fiasco in support of Lake FX 2016. (May 13 & 14, 7–10:30 p.m.)
• Sit back and enjoy the show at “IN Sight” Viewing Opportunities including a Podcast Stage(May 13 & 14, 10 a.m.–12:30 p.m.) featuring live recordings of your favorite local podcasts, real A & R Auditions (May 13 & 14, 2:30–5 p.m.) by selected Chicagoland musicians in front of music label A & R executives, and a Festival of Chicago Film Festivals (May 15, 12–4 p.m.) featuring screening selections from over 30 Chicago area film festivals.
• Receive one-on-one legal, marketing and portfolio review advice at “Interactive” clinics (pre-registration required)
• Connect with career-enhancing resources at the Lake FX Expo, featuring over 70 organizations in a trade show format (May 13 & 14, 10 a.m.–5 p.m.)
• Browse and buy at the Lake FX Marketplace by Dose Market, a showcase of 60 local designers, chefs, makers, bakers, entrepreneurs and artisans. (May 15, 10 a.m.–4 p.m.)
• Create their own personalized program schedule and connect with other fellow Lake FXattendees on the official Lake FX App, coming soon to the Apple App Store and Google Play
