The most senior Republican in Congress added that the US did not want to use military options in regard to the reclusive country but that it needed to keep all options open.

He said: “Of course we don't want to have military options employed, but we must keep all options on the table.”

Speaking about the precarious balance in world affairs he also stated he believed that the current nuclear deal with Iran would remain in place but that sanctions would needed to be ratcheted up.

The 47-year-old was speaking at the Policy Exchange think tank in London also said that the US was ready to forge a new bilateral trade deal with the UK as soon as possible.

Mr Ryan also added that he believed that the UK would be abel to agree a Brexit deal with the European Union.
