Things to do before during and after a Tropical storm

Bring in all outside furniture - garbage cans - garden objects - hoses, prevent pool damage, drain a few inches, and don't put any outside items in your pool.

Charge cell phone batteries

Download anything that you may want to keep from your computer onto a disk or cd in case of computer damage, keep these disks in a plastic baggy with other important papers and keep them all in a safe place.

Put together all your Insurance papers, Home, Health, Life and put them in a baggy as above.

Fill your car's gas tank and any propane you may need for your grill.

Fill gas cans for use with your generator or extra gas for your cars.

If you have cordless phones, get out the old corded phone to use in case of no electricity

Make an emergency list, doctors, family. Talk with long distance family and friends and designate one or two that you can talk to and they can share your "safe" information with everyone else.

Make sure you have enough medication for at least 10 days

Make sure you have enough pet food for at least 10 days

Get directions for your electric garage door opener, how to open in case of no electricity, (my car was stuck in my garage for 10 days one year, because my garage door didn't open the same way my neighbors did and no one could figure it out).

If there is a storm warning do laundry, enough towels, bedding, and clothing for 10 days.

If you live in a flood zone and we get a storm warning you may want to put bricks under the legs of your furniture if you live on the first floor.

Evacuation tips
If you live in an evacuation area, and you have no place to go check with your local authorities for shelters in your area. Make sure you pre register (weeks in advance), and find out the following information for an easy transition. Are they pet friendly, you may have pets or you may have allergies, in either case you would want to know. Do you need to volunteer your assistance, do they supply bedding, food, sanitary supplies, is there medical assistance on site if needed, do they have parking.
